PrintQ, X!Support and X!Preview

For all MultiDX! and XPose! systems

Users can efficiently process incoming 1-bit TIFFs with the user-friendly PrintQ software package bundled with the Lüscher system. Software components include the print spooler with queue and archive features, the image preview tool X!Preview on pixel level, the job preview with priorising and sorting function, statistics output and the print form and user database. X!Support also invcludes process flow visualisation and system analysis, and it allows changes to be made to mechanical processes.

The following software products X!Plate, X!mask, X!Direct, X!Mask and X!Disc are integrated in PrintQ and can be activated upon request.

X!Plate

For all MultiDX! and XPose! systems

X!Plate optimizes the positioning of TIFF separations from different jobs on the printing form, minimising waste. Flexo plates are expensive to buy and variable in format. X!Plate plate optimizes plate usage without additional cost and effort.

X!Mask

For improved HiRes mask ablation on MultiDX! and XPose! Flex systems

Flexography faces two known and specific challenges:

  • Pinholing in printing of solid areas with limited quality of solids and optical densities

  • Size limitations of highlight dots with «sharp edges»

The X!Mask software integrates two functions to cope with these challenges:

  • Surface patterning of solid areas and shadows

  • Efficient support for highlights and for small positive elements of line work

The input to the CtP remains a standard Tiff. The software works «on the fly» and is has no impact on file preparation and imaging time for the customer.

  • Any of the two functions can be either activated or inactivated independently, depending upon job and plate types.

  • The software, with user defined unlimited possibilities is applicable to all «digital» flexo plates available on the market.

  • It can also be used for letterpress and dry offset plates.

  • The open software does not depend on resolution or RIP, however it requires a rather high imaging resolution in order to be fully functional.

  • For CtP use, It is recommended to work with a resolution of 4800 dpi or higher.

X!Direct

For all MultiDX!, XPose! UV and XPose! UV-Flex systems

UV imaging has the potential to become the universal Graphic Arts imaging technology. Printing forms for offset, flexo and screen printing as well as for coating and spot colors are yet available. More applications are being developed.

The main benefits of UV direct imaging for flexo and letterpress applications are the elimination of masking and its associated costs, processing steps and difficulties such as contamination by washout chemicals. In order to get the best out of this technology, Lüscher Technologies AG has developed specific software helping with 3D imaging of fine details.

Purpose of the software X!Direct

UV laser light is highly collimated, penetrating straight and deeply into polymer material to crosslink it directly. This leads to sharp deep shoulders and open reverses for relief printing forms. For small positive elements such as fine lines, text and highlights, however, have to be supported by optimal shoulders.

How does X!Direct work?

The energy needed to crosslink the polymers is applied to the material with a defined number of consecutive scans. This means that different digital data for each individual scan can be processed. The input to X!Direct software is the TIFF file coming from the RIP. The input file is adapted «on the fly» during imaging in order to obtain the desired effects.

What the software is doing can best be visualised in grey levels as illustrated in the pictures below. A black pixel zone means that the imaging energy applied during a preset number of scans is 100%. This corresponds with the input TIFF file. A white pixel zone means that no energy is applied and the polymer is not cross linked. Different levels of grey for a pixel represent different levels of imaging energy.

The extent of the zones with different levels of imaging energy is shaping the shoulders of the printing zones. With a set of powerful independent parameters at your disposal, the software opens a wide range of opportunities for you to optimize imaging and adjusting the anchoring of small positive graphic elements without affecting midtones, shadows and reverses. As a result, using the software significantly reduces operating expenses.

X!Tend

For MultiDX!-systems

X!Tend is an extended function improving the imaging results of photo sensitive materials on screens, as well as on coatings. The software is used for both positive and negative operations and increases the application range of your consumables. X!Tend is not limited like any other comparable software, works more specifically and is therefore better suited for the job. The software affects all fine elements in existing ripped 1Bit Tiff data, such as lines, texts and raster dots and modifies their width. The converting process runs automatically during the exposure and therefore has no impact on the productivity of the machine.

X!Skip

For all MultiDX! and XPose! systems

X!Skip controls the CtP system so that the imaging component is only active if there is printing information. Unprinted areas are simply skipped. This function helps to reduce imaging time and, in turn, cuts your operating expenses.

X!Rip

For special requirements

X!Rip is used wherever standard RIPs do not meet any special requirements. One of the highlights is the software’s ability to generate «seamless» Rips as used in textile printing where imaging must be endless and without uninterrupted. This applies to rotary screen printing as well as to gravure printing.

X!Rip also includes raster forms specifically designed for gravure printing, such as hexagonal and other specialities for outline and gutter generation.

Of course, various file formats such as PDF, PS or TIFF can also be converted to high resolution 1Bit TIFFs and the software includes the most common standard functions.

X!Disc

For all MultiDX! and XPose! systems

X!Disc is a software for printing on CDs and DVDs. It optimally prepares the files for the printing machine. X!Disc allows the user to rotate and position individual colors at the correct angle. With this software, no film is used and complex manual operations are eliminated.

ACE 3000 for Lüscher

For all MultiDX! and XPose! systems

The ACE 3000 software was developed in cooperation with Lüscher Technologies AG specifically for the output of data to our systems. ACE 3000 allows the user to convert CAD data, such as DXF, DWG or Gerber, into TIFF data without any loss and at a high resolution. As a result, it replaces the current procedure of first saving the CAD data in PDF format and then converting it into TIFF. With ACE 3000, any loss of information and quality is eliminated. This software guarantees uniform data quality and minimizes time requirements.

Consumables

Coating Plate «Accent»

Accent is a newly developed coating plate with outstanding properties for the packaging and commercial printer. In-house imaging and manufacturing of coating plates in offset printing shops has become easy. The application of this plate for offset printing is the result of a unique combination of a new coating plate and a new generation of imagesetter working with UV laser diodes at 405 nm.

Our XPose! and MultiDX! systems, which were mainly used for the production of offset plates, can now also image the Accent coating plate by MacDermid. The plate is water washable and therefore environmentally compatible.

Using this new coating plate, you increases the flexibility of your printing shop in the production of printed matter. By processing the coating plate in-house, you reduce your overall operational expenses, whereas you increase your ability to compete and your level of service and reaction speed.

The main advantages at a glance:

  • increases competitiveness.
  • optimises the operational effort in print enhancement: no cutting of coating cloths or waiting for bought-in plates.
  • increases production efficiency and flexibility.
  • sustainably reducing your overall operating expenses
  • producing coating plates within 70 minutes
  • same precision and registration accuracy as with offset plates
  • environmentally compatible producing of coating plates
